Join the First Community Engagement Meetings for the Sustainability Destination Management Plan
By Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board The Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Joint Powers Board (JHTTB) is inviting community members living or working in Teton County, Wyoming and neighboring communities in Wyoming and Idaho to two community events where residents can add their voice to the tourism planning process.
JHTTB staff, alongside research teams from George Washington University International Institute of Tourism Studies and Confluence Sustainability, will give presentations about creating a Sustainable Destination Management Plan (SDMP) and the community benefits of sustainable tourism. Residents will have opportunities to ask questions and give feedback.
The SDMP listening tour is the first of several opportunities designed to support the community playing an active role in the JHTTB’s year-long planning process. A central focus of the SDMP is to foster greater collaboration and alignment between local governments, tourism industry stakeholders, enterprise leaders, nonprofit and social services managers, public land managers, residents, the diverse workforce, and neighboring communities. The process also helps establish a community understanding of a holistic view of sustainability and its value, as well as developing a sense of shared responsibility for managing tourism in the Tetons. More community events will be scheduled throughout the next few months at key stages in the project.

As part of an ongoing process, the JHTTB recently launched a Resident Tourism Sentiment Survey (available in English and Spanish), along with background information on the SDMP and project updates. Surveys are available until April 5, 2022.
The SDMP builds upon efforts of valued and well-established community partners and their pioneering work on sustainability initiatives. A steering committee of engaged community stakeholders is providing oversight for the planning process, which focuses on elevating existing sustainability initiatives that sets Jackson Hole apart as a global leader. Leading the entire project and supporting JHTTB’s initiatives, George Washington University International Institute of Tourism Studies and Confluence Sustainability work as consultants assessing destination needs of Jackson Hole and Teton County before designing a new strategy that reflects shared community visions for the future of destination tourism.
